fight club - break something beautiful

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 10:47:37 AM: I just paid $8 for 1 bottle of water and 1 soft drink after sporting..

So I did an analysis of how much it actually costs and this really struck me: 6000% retail margin!?

So I came up with an idea. What if governments provided free bottles of water, everywhere? What would that do to society?

Introducing the 'Free Water Revolution' (5 likes)

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 11:13:46 AM: @janwilmake Planetary Plastic Pollution Problem. Free water is basically tap water & water fountains.

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 5:19:21 PM: the problem is that tap water and water fountains only solve half the problem; if you don't have a bottle with you, the water isn't portable, and the amount of locations distributing this is smaller; portable water can be distributed anywhere.

plastic is certainly a problem, so using glass for bottles is also a possibility and has similar economics im sure.

that said, I don't believe plastic bottles are the biggest pollutor and would like to see evidence on whether it really has a significant effect to remove plastic bottles altogether. especially if you see the lifecycle of the plastic (recycling) as part of the product gov's would make free here. @RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 5:25:17 PM: plastic cannot be recycled it can only be degraded into smaller plastics of a lesser quality or burned for it's original petroleum value. No please don't pollute with your solution or I will do everything in my power to stop you. You think wrongly because you might have micro plastics in your head. (2 likes)

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 5:26:35 PM: @RussellBal well, cartons or glass work just as well for me as long as it's economically competitive. and I think it is.

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 5:36:38 PM: @janwilmake Ideally we will shame people for using single use material and hold our noses up to them. What exactly is your angle? Whose nations water to you plan to bottle up for "free" & give away? Whose king do you serve? (1 likes)

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 5:39:36 PM: water is extremely cheap so there shouldn't be such a giant profit margin. in my mind any gov can easily pay for free water distributed in portable units.

but if Govs don't want to pay for that, I'd also be happy with water that costs $0.05, it's just a bit annoying (increases friction, reduces accessibility)

low-friction high-accessibility clean water everywhere would be the goal.

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 7:00:48 PM: @janwilmake You didn't answer me. What nations water will be packaged up? Which watershed?

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 7:17:05 PM: @RussellBal I have no preference

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 7:17:50 PM: @janwilmake Start desalination company.

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 8:02:57 PM: @RussellBal im fine programming. just putting the idea out there.

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 8:11:38 PM: @janwilmake Ideas are cheap. Execution. Always has been. https://t.co/l9GhpOmwDD [Image: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GvR9vRcXYAAAPmE.jpg]

@janwilmake - 7/7/2025, 8:22:46 PM: @RussellBal the time will come. currently executing on other things.

@RussellBal - 7/7/2025, 8:24:13 PM: @janwilmake Excuses. You coded up a landing page without a business plan. (1 likes)
